ATSDR MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT
ATSDR Announces Public Availability Session for
Residents Living on Cady Road in North Royalton, Ohio

For Immediate Release: May 23, 2001

What: The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), today announced that it will hold a public availability session in North Royalton, Ohio, to talk with residents about concerns related to private well water quality along Cady Road.

The session will take place on Wednesday, May 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at North Royalton High School, Community Room. The school is located at 14713 Ridge Road in North Royalton, Ohio.

ATSDR is holding this availability session in response to a request for a petitioned public health assessment. ATSDR received the request from a former Cady Road resident who expressed concerns about groundwater quality.

Public availability sessions are not intended to be large-scale meetings. Instead, community members may drop in at any time during the session and meet one-on-one with ATSDR staff to discuss health concerns regarding the site. Attendance is open to the public, although individual conversations with ATSDR staff will be confidential.

Public health assessments report information about hazardous substances in the environment and evaluate whether exposure to those substances in the past, present, or future could harm people in the area. They also recommend activities that might be needed to protect public health. The recommendations are usually made to other government agencies, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state and local health and environmental departments

Community members with additional questions or those who cannot attend the meetings but would like to receive additional information should contact ATSDR Health Assessor Kim Chapman or Health Communications Specialist, Rose Jackson, toll free, at 1-888-42-ATSDR.
