Region VII Rolls Out CERT Training Trailers
During October, FEMA Region VII is presenting a Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) training trailer to each state in its four-state area, as well as to representatives of a tribal council representing nine Native American tribes in the region. The trailers will enable the Region VII states and the tribal council to provide citizens with the training to gain the skills they need in order to be self-sufficient for the first 72 hours following a disaster if first responders are unable to get to them. The CERT Program (a component of Citizen Corps) promotes the partnership between first responders and the citizens they serve. CERT trained citizens are a valuable community resource, not only during times of disasters but they can also be utilized on a regular basis for a myriad of community volunteer projects that improve community emergency preparedness.
