Alabama uses 7.0 RVP gasoline
in the Birmingham metropolitan area and conventional gasoline throughout
the rest of the state. Indigenous crude oil production totals 22,000 barrels
per day, ranking Alabama 16th out of the 31 producing states and Federal
Offshore areas. The state's three refineries have a combined crude oil
distillation capacity of 130,200 barrels per calendar day, while several
crude oil, product, and liquefied petroleum gas pipelines pass through
the state. Electricity makes up the largest share (46 percent) of fuel
used for home heating, followed by natural gas with a 38 percent share.
