October 12, 2004: Restoration of Full Text Documents (PDF files) in progress.
We are in the process of restoring the Full Text Documents (PDF files) for NTRS.
September 16, 2004: NASA documents in PDF format made available.
More than thirty thousand full-text NASA documents in PDF format have been made available in NTRS.
February 17, 2004: NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) removed from NTRS.
GISS has been removed from NTRS until issues with copyrighted images are resolved.
November 13, 2003: NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory added to NTRS
The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory was added to NTRS, with over 8900 full-text records.
September 26, 2003: Scheduled downtime for NTRS Monday, September 29th.
The NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS) will experience downtime this coming Monday, September 29th, due to server software upgrades. The downtime will be from 5-9 PM ET. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
September 24, 2003: NTRS returns after an extended outage due to Hurricane Isabel.
NTRS was unavailble from September 17 - September 23 due to conditions caused by Hurricane Isabel. We apologize for the delay in service.
September 4, 2003: A recommendation service has been added to NTRS.
Recommendations for records with full-text are now available in NTRS. The recommendations are generated by a Zeitgeist server, which is part of the Dean Project. Feedback on the quality of the recommendations is appreciated.
June 3, 2003: NTRS has been re-indexed; all content is available now.
An unscheduled re-indexing of NTRS occured. We apologize for the inconvenience.
April 15, 2003: NASA GISS added to NTRS.
The NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) was added to NTRS. GISS is located on the campus of Columbia University in New York City.
April 10, 2003: GENESIS Project at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory added to NTRS.
GENESIS (GPS Environmental & Earth Science Information System) is a suite of data services that brings together the new Earth science products generated by spaceborne Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers on a diversity of new US and international missions.
March 11, 2003: 16,000+ citations from BioMed Central added to NTRS.
A new collection, BioMed Central, has been added to NTRS. BioMed Central currently has > 16k citations.
March 4, 2003: 20,000+ citations from OSTI's Energy Citation Database added to NTRS.
A new collection, OSTI's Energy Citation Database, has been added to NTRS. ECD currently has > 20k citations and > 8k full-text reports.
December 30, 2002: 254,000+ citations from NASA CASI added to NTRS.
Over 254k citations have been added to the NTRS. These citations come from the NASA Center for AeroSpace Information (CASI).
December 23, 2002: Ames, Goddard, Kennedy and Stennis reports unlinked.
Reports scraped from the web pages of NASA ARC, GSFC KSC and SSC have been temporarily unlinked from their metadata pending an OK from CASI for them to be served. Contact JoAnne Rocker if you have questions.
November 26, 2002: Nearly 600 ICASE Reports moved to LTRS.
The Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) based at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) will cease to exist on Dec 31, 2002. ICASE will be incorporated into the new National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) at NASA LaRC. The ICASE reports were moved from the separate ICASE Technical Report Server (ITRS) to the Langley Techincal Report Server (LTRS).
September, 2002: NTRS is available for testing at other NASA sites.

July, 2002: The new NTRS, based on the OAI-PMH is available for internal testing.
The new NTRS features many architectural improvements, including the switch from distributed searching of WAIS and other Z39.50 based servers, to a metadata harvesting model based on the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).
