NIMH Outreach

The Office of Constituency Relations and Public Liaison (OCRPL)
Oversees most of the Institute’s outreach and public liaison activities, including interactions with patient advocacy, professional, scientific and community-based organizations interested in the mission and/or programs of NIMH. more>>

Outreach Partnership Program
The Outreach Partnership Program is a nationwide initiative of the NIMH with support from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) that enlists national, state, and local organizations in partnerships to help bridge the gap between research and clinical practice through dissemination of the latest scientific findings, inform the public about mental disorders, alcoholism, and drug abuse, and reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illnesses. The program also strives to increase the public’s awareness throughout the U.S. of the importance of basic and clinical research in advancing knowledge of the brain and behavior. more>>

NIMH Alliance for Research Progress
The Alliance is a group of patient and family advocates representing national voluntary organizations, meeting once a year with NIMH Director and staff on new research and NIMH priorities, which allows an opportunity for NIMH to hear directly from representatives of constituency groups about their views and concerns regarding its research. more>>

Other Public Forums and Dialogues
NIMH hosts meetings across the US designed to inform the public of cutting-edge mental health research and to gather input from the community about public health needs. more>>

Office of Communications (OC)
Provides state-of-the-art mental health information to the public, media, Congress, voluntary and advocacy organizations, public interest groups, students, educators and scientists through press releases, dissemination of NIMH-funded research findings, and public education campaigns and materials on issues of significant public health importance. This NIMH web site, developed and managed by this office, is a prime vehicle for global publishing of NIMH research and resources. more>>

Real Men Real Depression

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is reaching out to educate the public about depression in men through its Real Men Real Depression campaign.
