The Tools

Changing Text Size
The text-size tool, located in the upper right hand corner, changes the size of text on a page to 11, 13, or 15 points.

Searching Our Site
Our site uses the Google search engine to look for the text entered into the search box located in the upper right corner.

Getting Around Our Site
We have divided our Web site into four main sections: NIMH Home, Health Information, Research & Funding, and About NIMH. Their links (which look like tabs) are near the top of our pages.

NIMH Home serves as the gateway to our site and features links to breaking news, site highlights, and popular topics in the Health Information and Research & Funding sections.

The Health Information section includes descriptions of mental disorders, treatments, and resources. This may be helpful to you if you have personal concerns or are worried about another person or if you are a caregiver. If you are thinking about participating in a clinical trial, you will find descriptions of the research and guidelines for participating in a research study.

The material in the Research & Funding section describes NIMH funding opportunities for mental health research and professional training. You can also learn about developments in mental health science and NIH resources.

The material in the About NIMH section describes the mission, initiatives, priorities, plans, and history of NIMH. You can also learn about NIMH job openings.

Directly below the section tabs are links to additional information categories (Press Room, NIMH Outreach, Scientific Meetings, Clinical Trials, and Publications).

Downloading Publications
Publications on our site are available in normal and printer-friendly HTML formats; some publications are also available as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. A PDF file preserves the layout and presentation of a publication's printed version. If you need to install a PDF viewer on your computer, you can go to the Adobe Web site and download Adobe Reader for free.

E-mailing a Page's Link
When you want to send someone the page or publication you are viewing, click on the E-mail to a Friend link located under the NIMH logo. A new page with a form will appear that guides you through the process of e-mailing the link to a friend.

Joining Our Listserv
The Listserv link located under the NIMH logo takes you to a page with information about joining the NIMH Listserv. Our Listserv sends you e-mail updates about our Web site.

Contacting Us
The Contact Us link located at the bottom of every page takes you to a page with NIMH contact information, including the e-mail address. You can send inquiries or comments about our site to this address.

Please note that we may use third-party contractors for the initial sorting of incoming e-mails. We hold these contractors to strict privacy policies to safeguard the personal information in your e-mail.

Finding Other Sites
Some of our pages have links to the sites of other government agencies. In general, clicking on such an external link opens the agency's page in a new browser window.

NIMH does not link to the sites of non-government organizations; however, we may list on our Resources page the Internet addresses (URLs) and descriptions of Web sites which focus on mental health issues.

Inclusion of a link to or address for another organization's Web site is not an endorsement or recommendation of its policies, products, or services.
