Scheduled Public Tours
Docent-led scheduled public tours
are offered Mondays through Saturdays in the Great Hall of the
Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. Tours are
limited to 50 people. For more information on guided tours, ask
at either of the information desks in the Visitors' Center of
the Jefferson Building, or contact
the Visitor Services Office.
Group Tours
Special tours can be prearranged
through the Visitor Services Office for groups of 10 to 60 participants.
These tours are available only by reservation, Monday through
Friday, and can begin as early as 9:00am or as late as 1:00pm.
Reserved group tours are about one hour in length (this allows
time for the personal security check at the entrance and the collections
security check at the exit.) Each tour is led by a docent who
will touch on the following highlights: history of the Library,
history of the Jefferson Building and its art and architecture,
and the services the Library provides to Congress and the nation.
Please note: Because this is a lecture tour, it is not
suitable for school groups younger than 5th grade. To reserve
a group tour, please contact
the Visitor Services Office.
Constituent Tours
Arranged Through Congressional Offices
Constituents may arrange special
tours by contacting the congressional office of their representatives.
The tour includes:
- A special greeting by a member of the Visitor Services Office
Staff
- A tour of the Thomas Jefferson Building led by an L.C. docent
- An introduction to the "American Treasures" exhibition
Yearly Schedule: Monday through Friday at both 8:30 a.m.
2:00 p.m.
Professional Programs
Yearly, the Library of Congress
hosts hundreds of professional visitors from around the world.
This group of visitors consists of library science students,
librarians
and information technology specialists from other national libraries,
and professionals from fields ranging from government to medicine
and the arts. If you are interested in requesting appointments
with appropriate staff members at the Library of Congress, please contact
the Visitor Services Office. Be sure to submit your request
at least one month before the visit. If you are submitting your
request through email, be certain to
include names, titles and affiliations and specific interests
of the visitors in addition to the day the date and time of the
requested visit.
