HRSA has viewed family and intimate partner violence as a major public health concern for several years. In 1995, HRSA launched a project called the Family and Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Initiative. In collaboration with an Agencywide Steering Committee, and more than 80 national experts, HRSA developed an Action Plan to Prevent Family and Intimate Partner Violence.

The Plan is guiding HRSA's response to family and intimate partner violence now and into the 21st century. It addresses a wide spectrum of violence, including spousal abuse and abuse against women, children, and the elderly. The Plan supports a broader effort of the Department that targets domestic violence prevention.

The Plan has five components -- policy, training, service delivery, family education and prevention promotion, and research and evaluation. It has been widely distributed at the Federal, State, and local level and within academia.

The Action Plan is available for download here in Adobe Acrobat (173 K) or WordPerfect (296 K). Download the free Acrobat Reader software. It is a document that will be used by the Agency to guide policy formulation and programmatic activities. It also promotes partnerships with and among the public and private sectors.

If you do not have the Acrobat Reader software, you may download a copy here. If you are having trouble downloading the WordPerfect version, use your browsers help files to configure your "helper applications" to download the file to your computer.
