The Technology Transfer Information Center (TTIC) helps to promote the rapid conversion of federally-developed inventions into commercial products by "getting the results of research into the hands of those individuals and organizations who can put it into practical use."
To accomplish these goals the Center provides a variety of services to professionals involved in the innovation process, including:
Information Support Systems for the Agricultural Research Service (ARS)
- TTIC staff search national, international, and patent databases
extensively to optimize ARS' decision making in directing research programs,
and in the patenting, marketing, and licensing of new technologies.
Transferring Technologies for Industry
- Transferring Technologies for Industry is a new technology transfer
process that includes: (1) working with an industry association to identify
and prioritize research needs; (2) hiring technology agents; (3) writing and
distributing thorough problem statements; (4) canvassing the Federal
laboratories, and the university and private sector research systems to
identify potential technologies to meet an industry's top
priority needs; (5) evaluating the technologies and documenting the findings
in State-of- the-Art reports; and (6) disseminating reports to
appropriate businesses.
Projects have been carried out with the Utility Locating Technologies, the Hardwood Industry and the Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing Industry and are available on the TTIC Home Page.
Reference
- Information Center Staff are available to locate information relative to
your technology transfer needs. In order to do this, we may: search databases
or information files; contact other individuals, Federal agencies, or public
and private organizations that can best provide the information; or refer you
to organizations or experts that can assist you directly.
Collection Development
- Staff acquire books, reports, conference papers, newsletters, journals,
and other published literature to keep track of the latest developments in
technology transfer, research and development, and federal activities related
to technology development. TTIC staff have added many titles and reports to
the NAL Collection, and the Agricola database.
Facilitate Information Exchange
- In addition to the distribution of documents and technical information,
TTIC attempts to bring together innovative solutions to problems. TTIC
supports research efforts, participates in laboratory research consortia, and
coordinates the development and exchange of technology information throughout
the scientific, business, governmental, and academic communities.
- FLC provides a link between the
resources of the Federal laboratories and the potential users of government
developed technologies. TTIC staff work closely with the FLC and other
technology transfer organizations.
