Enduring Freedom. Operation Enduring Freedom, the military phase of the U.S. war against terrorism, began October 7, 2001. Since then, the U.S. and its allies have achieved significant military success, but the war on terrorism is not over. Thousands of servicemembers are still deployed and fighting terrorism.
