SMDTEC LogoThe SMD Test and Evaluation Center (SMDTEC) is the major command (MACOM) lead organization and executing agent for developmental and operational test and evaluation.  SMDTEC provides external focus for MACOM testing and articulates MACOM's testing resource/investment positions/priorities to the Army and external agencies. The SMDTEC is the MACOM lead for the implementation of testing of high energy laser, certain space system, and designated missile testing at U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll/ Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site (USAKA/RTS) and High Energy Laser System Test Facility (HELSTF).

The SMDTEC is responsible for formulating, developing, and implementing SMDC test and evaluation policy and activities; for coordinating the management, programming, budgeting, and test execution at USAKA/RTS in the Marshall Islands, and HELSTF in New Mexico.  The SMDTEC provides oversight to USAKA/RTS and HELSTF commanders/directors in the planning, conducting, and integration of developmental testing, independent evaluations, assessments, and experiments in order to provide essential information to decision makers.
