USGS Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How can I get Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data into AutoCAD and (or) Microstation?

Answer:

AutoCAD and Microstation won't read DEMs in their native format (this might change since AUTODESK has merged with SOFTDESK). They require add-on packages to do this work, such as Softdesk's landscape software for AutoCAD or InExpress for Microstation. Some of these applications will import elevation information in the form of XYZ triples.
