Question: How can I view a USGS digital orthophoto quadrangle (DOQ)?

Answer:

  • DLGv32pro FREE - available at http://mcmcweb.er.usgs.gov/drc/dlgv32pro/.
  • Paint Shop Pro version 4.12 (shareware) will read both JPEG and uncompressed (.raw) gray-scale images. Use the raw format option for loading uncompressed DOQs. Paint Shop Pro is available from JASC corporation at http://www.jasc.com.
  • Adobe Photoshop will read DOQs with a .raw extension.....(handy if you want to convert them to tiff or some other graphic format).
  • Uncompressed - ArcVIEW and ARC/INFO (must have a .bil extension and be accompanied by a .hdr file for georeferencing)
  • JPEG (without georeferencing) - ArcVIEW (Uncompressed DOQs only; these must have a .bil extension and be accompanied by a .hdr file for georeferencing.) ArcVIEW and ARC/INFO .hdr files have the following format:
    	
    		nrows   xxxx
    		ncols    xxxx
    		ulxmap   xxxxxx
    		ulymap   xxxxxxx
    		xdim     1.0
    		ydim     1.0
  • ERDAS Imagine (uncompressed; UNIX version will read JPEG's also)
  • PCI (uncompressed DOQs)
  • AutoCAD (add-on required)
    • ArcCAD (by ESRI)
    • CADOverlay GSX (by Softdesk) (JPEG and uncompressed DOQs)
  • Microstation (add-on required)
    • pixel pro
    • mge base imager
    • IRAS C
  • MapINFO (JPEG's - georeferencing by WORLDREG)
