Health Information for Visitors to Eastern Europe. The Centers for Disease Control provide information on diseases in the area, as well as recommended vaccinations.

Malaria Risk. Malaria is a serious disease transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. In Eastern Europe malaria can be found in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan.

Recent Outbreaks – Former Soviet Union Nations. A diphtheria epidemic began in 1990 in Russia and spread to all of the remaining New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union by the end of 1994. Proof of diphtheria immunity is not required for international travel. However, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that travelers to areas where diphtheria is occurring should be up-to-date for diphtheria immunization.

Travel Warnings. The State Department issues travel warnings to specific countries based on all relevant information, in order to recommend that Americans avoid travel to a certain country.

Foreign Entry Requirements. The State Department provides a listing of the foreign entry requirements for every country. This includes information on passports, visas, immunizations, HIV testing, and any fees that may be required.
