Facts About EEO

The EEO Program

  • Stresses equal employment opportunities for all people regardless of sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or reprisal
  • Maintains that such opportunities should be available to all people equally and should not be artificially restricted.  
  • Exists to:
  1.  Guard against and correct artificial restrictions of employment opportunities
  2. Move the Federal workforce toward full utilization of people and a representative workforce
  3. Deal with complaints of discrimination
  • Requires the support of managers, supervisors, and the Human Resource staff working together with the EEO team 

The EEO Team

Equal Employment Specialist who:

  • Identifies and works to eliminate artificial restrictions 

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of  the EEO Affirmative Employment Plan

Federal Women's Program Manager

Black Employment Manager

Native American Program Manager

Asian Pacific Program Manager

Hispanic Employment Program Manager 

  • Focuses on employment needs and problems of targeted groups as they relate to and are affected by Federal personnel policies and practices 

People with Disabilities Program Manager who

  • Focuses on the employment, placement and advancement of individuals with disabilities 

  • Acts as liaison to organizations and others concerned with the employment of persons with disabilities

  EEO Counselors who

  • Answer questions

  • Help define problems 

  • Advise complainant of their rights within the complaint process

  • Act as an impartial, objective third party 

  • Gather facts necessary for problem resolution

  • Work with complainant and management to resolve problems informally

  EEO Cultural Diversity Committee which

  • Is made-up of an equal number of representatives from, and appointed by management, the Equal Employment Manager and the Commander

  • Provides broad input into the program

  • Addresses broad issues

  • Offers suggestions to the Equal Employment Specialist

  • Does not deal with individual complaints
