New Procedures for GRF Awardees
The Graduate Research Fellowship Program has implemented new procedures for fellows and coordinating officials to conduct adminstrative functions. These new procedures are based in the NSF FastLane web-based system and have replaced the old paper-based forms system.
Most Fellows should have received two e-mail notices indicating login and passwords for the new system along with instructions on how to access the appropriate login pages.
We are receiving a number of e-mail messages from fellows who have forgotten their login passwords. Please remember that on the login page , under the "Log In Fellows" box there is a link to "Forgot Password?" This function relies on the use of your e-mail address to automatically send your password to you. If you have changed your e-mail address since last entering the system you should call the FastLane help desk 1-800-673-6188 for assistance in updating your e-mail address. They cannot reset your password nor give it to you over the phone. They can correct your e-mail address and then you can use the Forgot Password? function.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks to ensure the vitality of the human
resource base of science, mathematics, and engineering in the United States
and to reinforce its diversity. A competition is conducted for Graduate Research
Fellowships, with additional awards offered for women in engineering and computer
and information science. NSF Graduate Fellowships offer recognition and three
years of support for advanced study to approximately 900 outstanding graduate
students in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, and behavioral
and social sciences, including the history of science and the philosophy of
science, and to research-based PhD degrees in science education. Approximately
90 awards will be in the Women in Engineering (WENG) and Women in Computer and
Information Science (WICS) components. Awards made in March 2004 carry
a stipend for each fellow of $30,000 for a 12-month tenure (prorated monthly
at $2,500 for lesser periods) and an annual cost-of-education allowance of $10,500,
paid to the Fellow's institution in lieu of tuition and fees. Note that the stipend for all
existing Fellows will be increased to $30,000 a year (prorated at $2,500 a month for
lesser periods) dependent upon the start time of the fellowship. This will begin with
the 2004-2005 academic year.
The Fellowship program offers a one-time international research travel allowance
for fellows who plan to study or do research full-time at a foreign site for
at least 3 continuous months. For fellows wishing to conduct research in close
cooperation with a host country investigator, the NSF Division of International
Programs will consider additional support for foreign travel and subsistence
and for other expenses related to the international collaboration. Details are
