TRMM Observations of the Remnants of Tropical Storm Gaston

On August 30, 2004, the remnants of Tropical Storm Gaston dumped heavy rainfall in the Richmond area and the southern part of Maryland's eastern shore. Figure 1 shows a TRMM image of the storm. A part of the city was flooded and a portion of Interstate 95 was closed due to flooding. The floods stranded hundreds of people and at least six people were killed according to news reports.
