October 30th is Weatherization Day

October 30th has been designated by the Department of Energy as "Weatherization Day 2004," an opportunity to showcase the accomplishments of the state and local weatherization network and to improve the public’s understanding of the benefits weatherization provides to low-income people and communities.

As part of Weatherization Day 2003, nearly half of the nation’s governors issued proclamations celebrating Weatherization Day, and local and state agencies set up site demonstrations, appeared on radio and television shows, and recognized weatherization partners.

The National Association of State and Community Service Programs has assembled a "Weatherization Day Manual," available on CD, to help members of the network plan and coordinate public events and activities to promote Weatherization Day in their communities. Additional information and resources can be found on line at www.waptac.org under the Public Information Campaign link.

According to the Waptac site, "Weatherization has an important story to tell. Weatherization Works! Every day, Weatherization helps low-income families conserve energy, save money, and improve their living conditions. Weatherization measures even save lives. Returning $1.39 in benefits for every $1 invested, Weatherization is the nation's best kept secret."
