    An extensive collection of well-annotated links compiled by Karen Fung at Stanford University for the African Studies Association. Organized alphabetically within country listing. The web site also has regional and topical categories of links, as well as a site searching capability.

    Varied selection of annotated links from the Center for African Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, covering general information, history and archaeology, news and political resources.

  • INCORE guide to Internet sources on conflict and ethnicity in Sudan
    A selective list of annotated links to email lists, newsgroups, news sources, articles and documents, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), maps, etc. from the Initiative on Conflict Resolution & Ethnicity.

  • Index on Africa: Country pages: Sudan
    The web site for Index on Africa, a project of the Norwegian Council for Africa, contains extensive annotated links, organized by news pages, subject pages and country pages. Within each individual country page, links are organized by subject category. Interesting features include the number of links listed for each category, the tabulation of hits on a specific link since it was added to the web page, as well as the opportunity to rate the link. Search capability is available for the web site.

  • Integrated Regional Information Network (IRIN): Sudan
    IRIN, a unit of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), provides a clearinghouse of information for humanitarian and international communities on the crises in sub-Saharan Africa. Its web site contains special reports and news briefs organized by country, region, or theme such as East Africa. Includes links to related web sites. An e-mail subscription for IRIN reports is also available.

  • Reliefweb: Sudan The Latest
    ReliefWeb, a project of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), has the latest news and "humanitarian response information on current emergencies and countries of concern" in its section on complex emergencies. Also includes documents and related links organized by by country, a map center, and site map and search capability. Within country listing, related links include background information and topics such as refugees and IDPs with a link to IDPs in Sudan from the Global IDP Project on internally displaced persons.

  • UNHCR: Country of Origin and Legal Information
    The web site for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has databases for country of origin and legal information documents and reports. Pull-down menus allow selection by country and/or subject and a specific search engine feature is also provided. Each country compilation includes links to country reports, legal documents, news and maps.

  • United Nations Human Rights Website: Documents Database
    This database contains the most recent documents and can be searched by country, as well as by UN body, mandate, subject, symbol and year. A search by Sudan retrieves documents organized by year.

  • Religion, Nationalism and Peace in Sudan
    A U.S. Institute of Peace conference hosted September 16-17, 1997, this web page links to the full-text transcripts and conference papers.

  • South Sudan Online Project
    U.S. Department of State hosts the web pages for this special project, a "cooperating information exchange "with the World Bank, United Nations, and ReliefWeb. The site includes several maps and links to humanitarian agenices involved in disaster and emergency relief.

  • Sudan: Ending the War, Moving Talks Forward
    Report of a U.S. Institute of Peace seminar from April 12, 1994, "that brought together prominent Sudanese representing virtually every major perspective on the conflict in Sudan, along with U.S. government analysts, governmental officials, humanitarian groups, and representatives of states in East Africa and the Horn of Africa."

  • Sudan: Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: 2003
    Extensive report from the U.S. Department of State. Reports for 1993-1999 and later are also available online.

  • U.S. Department of State - Bureau of African Affairs
    Includes links to official statements, press briefings, fact sheets, and links to other related Internet sites. Includes an index for individual country profiles and a link to the archives 1997-2000.

  • ReliefWeb Map Centre: Sudan
    Maps from ReliefWeb covering political, topographical and various refugee operations in Sudan. Also includes emergency maps.

  • Sudan: CIA World Factbook
    Country information for Sudan covering the geography, people, economy, government, and infrastructure. Includes a map.

  • Sudan Maps
    Maps from the Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection of the University of Texas at Austin. These maps were produced by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency or other sources and include country, city, regional, thematic, historical maps and links to other sites for Sudan maps.

  • Dinka-Nuer Peace Process and Reconciliation
    Documents associated with the March 31, 1999 agreement between the Dinka and Nuer peoples in southern Sudan, posted on the Sudan Infonet web site, "an education and information service on Sudan provided by the Sudan Working Group (USA)" and funded by the Presbyterian Church, USA.

  • The Free South Sudan
    This web site has compiled useful documents, articles, reports and links (Northern, Southern and Other) to organizations. It provides a Free South News Service available through email subscription and compilations of current news stories. Its disclaimer states "This site does not claim to officially represent any group or interest in the South, rather it it the cumulation of personal dreams and effort."

  • To Guarantee the Peace: An Action Strategy for a Post-Conflict Sudan (PDF)UPDATED
    A report for the Secretary of State's Africa Policy Advisory Panel, January 2004 , from the Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project of the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS). A supplemental report, Supplement I: Addressing U.S. Sanctions Against Sudan was issued in March 2004.

  • Major Sudanese Political Parties

    Documents for Sudan and Sudan-Uganda include the full text of 11 peace agreements, dating from the Agreement between the Governments of Sudan and Uganda (Dec. 8, 1999) to the Nairobi Declaration of June 2004, including the three protocols signed in May 2004, the humanitarian cease fire of April 2004, the wealth sharing agreement of January 2004 and the Machakos Protocol of July 2002.
