Research and Studies Program

Chester A. Crocker and Condoleeza Rice
Institute Chairman Chester A. Crocker presents Condolezza Rice with a commemorative framed baton during the award ceremony and reception at the close of the "Passing the Baton" conference.

The Research and Studies Program seeks to develop and disseminate useful knowledge regarding prevention, management, and peaceful resolution of conflicts. Through small working groups, public meetings, and published materials, Research and Studies acts as a bridge between academia and the policy community. Conceptual projects cover cross-cultural negotiation, coercive diplomacy, civilian-military relations, human rights implementation, and political violence. Ongoing regional projects span the globe, but special efforts are underway in three areas: Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East.

Outreach

Through small working groups, public meetings, and written products, Research and Studies acts as a bridge between academia and the policy community and provides a valuable forum for discussion of foreign affairs with policymakers from the private, public and non-profit sectors.

Publications

Bringing together experts from both the U.S. and abroad to explore issues related to peaceful management and resolution of international conflict, the Institute has published numerous reports and books resulting from the work of the Research and Studies Program.

Projects

The Research and Studies Program's ongoing regional and conceptual projects examine issues around the globe including: cross-cultural negotiation, coercive diplomacy, civilian-military relations, and political violence and terrorism.
