LA Pilot Frequently Asked Questions
The USCIS is committed to improving customer service while strengthening the integrity of the adjudicative process. In conjunction with this goal, the Los Angeles District Office is conducting a Pilot Program designed to expedite the issuance of Permanent Residence or “Green” Cards (I-551):
Advantages of the Pilot
The Pilot Program offers many advantages to I-90 applicants. Participating applicants will be able to:
- Receive their Permanent Resident Card within three to five business days of approval;
- Make an appointment convenient to them for processing; and
- Minimize the number of visits to USCIS offices.
Eligibility for the Pilot
Participation in this Pilot Program is entirely voluntary but it is limited to customers who meet all of the following criteria:
- Electronically file their I-90 application; and
- Are normally serviced by the Los Angeles District Office
Participation in the Pilot Program is voluntary. Applicants who choose not to participate, or who are not eligible to participate in the Pilot Program, should follow the regular application filing procedures.
Start Date
The first applicants were processed by the Los Angeles Application Support Centers beginning March 26, 2004 and the pilot is currently scheduled to conclude September 30, 2004.
Note: Applicants applying for a replacement Permanent Resident card because they have reached their 14th birthday since their card was issued are not permitted to electronically file their I-90. As such they cannot participate in this pilot.
