Mission

The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia is one of 93 such offices in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The United States Attorney is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the President of the United States. The United States Attorney is the chief federal law enforcement officer of the United States within his or her jurisdiction.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia represents the United States in 43 counties and is divided into six divisions: Savannah, Augusta, Brunswick, Waycross, Dublin and Statesboro.

The office consists of the following sections: Administration, Appellate, Southern District of GeorgiaAsset Forfeiture/Financial Litigation/ACE, Civil and Criminal.

The Mission of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia is:

  • To enforce federal criminal laws of the United States;
  • To represent the interests of the United States, its agencies and
    employees in federal civil litigation;
  • To respond to the public safety needs of the community by leading an effective, well-coordinated law enforcement effort that contributes to the overall goal of improving the quality of life in the Southern District of Georgia; and
  • To facilitate a cooperative working relationship between state , local and federal law enforcement agencies.
