General System Requirements

The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) sells CD-ROM titles published by a wide variety of Federal government agencies.

CD-ROM discs purchased from GPO are in ISO 9660 format and generally will run on any IBM-compatible PC with 640 KB RAM, a minimum of 1/2MB of free hard disk space, DOS 3.1 or higher, and a CD-ROM reader using MS CD-ROM Extensions v 2.01 or later. Additional requirements are provided with the individual title listings.

User instructions are included with, or on, each CD-ROM. To locate documentation on disc type DIR at the DOS prompt for your CD-ROM drive and look for a file named README, README.DOC, README.TXT, etc. These files can be read or printed through the DOS TYPE and PRINT commands, and can usually be opened by word processors.
