Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Freedom of Information Act requires that the COPS Office provide its records to anyone who requests them in writing and providing a reasonable description of the records requested. Certain records may be exempt from disclosure under FOIA. To obtain information on how to make a FOIA request, see the FOIA Fact Sheet or contact the COPS FOIA Officer directly.

A great deal of information about the COPS Office is publicly available and may be accessed without a FOIA request via the Electronic Reading Room:

• A list of grant announcements.
• A list of grants awarded per state.
• Information regarding current funding opportunities.
• A list of state-assigned Grant Program Specialists.
• Specific grant program information.
