Larry Morgan has been selected as the new manager for the Bureau of Land Managements (BLM) Needles Field Office announced Linda Hansen, BLM California Desert District Manager. With almost 30 years experience, Larry has demonstrated superior skill, abilities, and leadership in the management of BLM-managed public lands throughout his career, said Hansen. Morgan has served as the range program lead for the California Desert District (CDD) since 1984 and as the acting Needles Field Office Manager for the past eight months. During the 70s and 80s he was a Range Technician, Range Conservationist, and Supervisory Range Conservationist in Burns, Oregon. Morgan earned a B.S. in Agriculture from California State University at Chico in 1974. As the District program lead, Morgan was involved in program policy development and implementation for grazing management, wild horses and burros, water rights, weed management, and development of rangeland improvements. During the past several years Morgan worked closely with all CDD field offices regarding consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for grazing management in listed species habitat. Larry will be an invaluable asset to our management team and our District with his in-depth knowledge of the CDD, added Hansen. We are truly fortunate to have such an experienced and capable manager. The Needles Field Office encompasses approximately 3.2 million acres, which include 18 wilderness areas, 12 Areas of Critical Environmental Concern, 2 National Natural Landmarks, and numerous historical landmarks such as five Patton Camps and Route 66, as well as eight energy production and utility corridors and Ivanpah Dry Lake, a popular recreation site. Major programs include management of vegetation resources, energy and minerals, wilderness, livestock grazing, land and realty operations, wild burros, wildlife habitat, threatened and endangered species, outdoor and off-road vehicle recreation, archeological and paleontology resources, and related administrative functions such as law enforcement, HazMat (hazardous materials), road construction and maintenance. Larry and his wife Pattie have two children Greg (24) and Laura (21). Larry and Pattie currently are residents of Moreno Valley, but are in the process of relocating to the Needles area. Hobbies include backpacking, hiking, and fishing in a wild land setting. I have received
a lot of enjoyment over the years working with people inside and outside of
the BLM to achieve on-the-ground accomplishments, said Morgan. And
I look forward to continue working with all our partners and constituents.
