NLM Virtual Representative Job Description

Who am I?

My name is Cosmo. I virtually represent the National Library of Medicine's Customer Services Section.

What do I do?

I answer simple questions about the Library and the Library's products and services. I am like a person in an information booth. My knowledge is based on answers to frequently asked questions about the Library, its products, and its services. For example,
• What are the Library's hours?
• Can I borrow books from the National Library of Medicine?
• How do I use MEDLINE?
• Do you have information about National Library of Medicine Grants?

I can also point you to other sources of information. If you ask me about a disease or a condition, I may link you to the Library's MedlinePlus consumer health pages or to our medical literature database PubMed/MEDLINE to find more information. I may suggest you contact our Customer Services staff if your question is not about the NLM, its products or services, or if it is too complicated for me.

How Do I Work Best?

I like whole sentences that ask me questions. One or two words from you are often not enough for me to give a useful answer.

  • Got a Question?

Ask Cosmo: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
