The NETWARS Program Office has a responsibility to develop, provide, and facilitate NETWARS training, which will allow users to effectively conduct communications studies, execute rapid contingency planning, and perform acquisition analysis. The training goals are to provide professional, relevant training to users worldwide; create and an educational portal for users, which is available around the clock; and act as a conduit for users to express their concerns regarding NETWARS, thereby effecting change.
The NETWARS PMO has visited an array of Combatant Command Headquarters, Major Subordinate Commands, and Operational Units within the Department of Defense. The program has also visited several Training and Educational facilities within the DoD.
Training is one manner in which NETWARS is promoted throughout the User Community. As trainers visit various locations and commands, they have the ability to pass along to senior leadership the capabilities and the current limitations of the software. It is essential that products and the manner in which they are presented during training are consistent.
The NETWARS Team has developed the training materials focused approach to training to successfully use the software. There are two types of NETWARS training, a basic curriculum for operational planners and analysts, and an intermediate training session for experienced OPNET Users. Currently, the NETWARS Program Office conducts 2 training sessions each course per year in the Washington DC metro area. Additionally, the NETWARS PMO is willing to sponsor on-site training at DoD Service, Agencies, and command locations worldwide.
Basic Course:
This course is intended to provide a military communications analyst with initial training on the NETWARS 2004-1 software. Topics include installation and licensing, a detailed review of the NETWARS editors and associated workflows, construction of moderate size communications networks and their associated traffic flows, and performance prediction via analytical and discrete event simulation techniques.
Intermediate Course:
This course is intended for military communications analysts with prior experience using NETWARS. Among the topics covered will be importing of configuration and measured traffic data, construction of multi-phase scenarios, equipment failure analysis and construction of threaded traffic. In particular, the course will draw on lessons learned and best practices from previous study efforts to better enable the use of NETWARS as a communications planning and analysis tool.
