Waikiki, HI裕he Office of Naval Research and the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR) will host TechEnterprise 2004 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, August 17-18, 2004. The conference offers Hawai段 businesses an opportunity to interact with government agencies and learn about current and upcoming federal technology opportunities.

Senator Daniel K. Inouye will address the audience of representatives from Hawai段 high-tech firms and state and federal agencies as the keynote speaker on Tuesday, August 17. The conference is designed to promote technology development, transfer, and commercialization in Hawai段, as well as to encourage public-private collaborations.

At the conference, the Office of Naval Research and PICHTR will introduce their latest collaboration, the Hawaii Technology Development Venture (HTDV), located in the Manoa Innovation Center in Honolulu. The new venture is designed to build a stronger technology base in Hawai段 to meet technology requirements of the Department of Defense and Department of Navy.

The HTDV will focus on avenues for spin-in and spin-out of technologies; support the development, transfer, and commercialization of technologies developed in Hawai段; assist with the commercialization of Department of Defense developed and/or owned technologies; and emphasize education and training as a means of supporting small businesses. It will support the long-term economic sustainability for technology businesses in Hawai段 and provide company consultations and mentoring services; assistance in technology assessment; market assessments and studies; business plans; partnering; and grants. The HTDV is accepting proposals for concept development and demonstration of technologies and applied sciences through August 31, 2004.

The TechEnterprise 2004 agenda includes presentations on the HTDV; Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology; the Technology Research, Education, and Commercialization Center; and a roundtable discussion on the future of high-tech in Hawai段.

The PICHTR is an independent, not-for-profit, applied research and development center incorporated in Hawai段 with an international board of directors from the United States, Asia, and the Pacific region.
