FisheriesThe Region 3 fisheries program focuses on a broad range of fishery resource management and aquatic habitat conservation issues, opportunities and partnerships in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Region 3 encompasses 450,000 square miles and a population of over 54 million people. Primary deep water aquatic resource features include four of the Great Lakes, and the majority of the Upper Mississippi River Basin including portions of the Missouri and Ohio Rivers. With its mid-continent location, the Region's waters drain three directions, into Hudson Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the gulf of Mexico. Eight of the 53 watershed-based ecosystems outlined by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service occur in Region 3. Primary Focus There are a total of 16 fishery program field stations in Region 3.
