NPS Cultural Resources Stewardship and Partnership programs have many
excellent publications that are of use to both the cultural resource
management professional and the general public with an interest in our
cultural heritage. We provide materials addressing a full range of CRM
topics including historic preservation, collections management, archeology,
and history. Our publications are available in print or online and many
are available free of charge or for a small cost.

Ground: Preserving Our Nation’s Heritage
This flagship cultural resources publication of the National Park Service takes a close-up view of heritage preservation
in national parks and on other federal lands, and in cities, states,
and neighborhoods across the nation. Published
quarterly, the magazine celebrates innovation, creativity, and collaboration and encourages the highest standards of excellence in historic preservation.
CRM:
The Journal of Heritage Stewardship
This publication carries on the proud 25-year tradition of its namesake
– CRM magazine. CRM Journal is published twice a year as an authoritative
resource of professional, peer-reviewed articles offering the latest
in original research, trends, and emerging issues, as well as reviews
of exhibits, books, techniques, and technologies of interest across
the cultural resource disciplines. The CRM
magazine archives continue to be available online.

Archeology
and Ethnography Program Publications
For the professional archeologists and interested public, both the Technical Briefs series and the archives of Common Ground: Archeology and Ethnography in the Public Interest cover a wide variety of issues. Resources Diversity Program Publications
The Office of Diversity and Special Projects has several publications
that support its efforts to diversify the historic preservation/cultural

Resource Management
CRM magazine was published by the National Park Service from 1978 through 2002. Use the Index or Search the Archives to view the magazine online. Beginning in Fall 2003, the CRM name will live on as CRM: The Journal of Heritage Stewardship.

buildings and districts, national historic landmarks, and historic
landscapes. Many items that may be ordered in printed form from the

Briefs
The Briefs are developed to assist owners and developers
of historic buildings in recognizing and resolving common preservation
and repair problems prior to work. They are especially useful to preservation
tax incentive program applicants because they recommend those methods
and approaches for rehabilitating historic buildings that are consistent
with their historic character. The complete text of Preservation Briefs
1-41 is now available online. Or, you can buy the Briefs in printed
form with illustrations through the Government Printing Office.

Archeological Center Publications
MWAC produces a variety of publications, including those with a wide interest in the archeological community as well as those featuring in-depth examination and research associated with single projects. The Conserve O Gram series includes short, focused leaflets on how
to care for museum collections. They are published in loose-leaf form

The Museum Handbook is a reference guide on how to manage, preserve,
document, access and use museum and archival collections. There are

National Catalog System User Manual ANCS is an automated collections
management system developed by NPS. ANCS+ includes multiple functions
covering documentation, preservation and use of collections such as
accessions, cataloging, loans, deaccessions, housekeeping, and conservation
treatment and reports.
Disaster
Plan
This primer discusses how to plan for emergencies, and salvage and
care for paper objects during emergencies, such as fire, flood, and
earthquake. The Primer was issued by the Smithsonian Institution,
National Archives and Records Administration, Library of Congress,
and National Park Service.
