Before the Awakening
This infrared color composite image was taken over Mount St. Helens on September 24, before the volcano began stirring. Snow is indicated in blue, other colors show the differences in rock and vegetation. The image was acquired by the joint JPL-Ames MODIS/ASTER (MASTER) airborne simulator, draped over a digital elevation model to add perspective. (Oct. 6)
