New NWR Voices
The National Weather Service (NWS) implemented new, improved voices for NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) nationwide in 2002. These voices are more understandable and human-sounding than the previous voice, and will help NWS to deliver warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information more quickly and accurately.
VOICE FILES
Check out the NWR voices, and compare them to the old voice. There are a total of seven voice files to listen to. You have the option of clicking on the links below to listen to the audio (.wav) files online, or to click on each file using your right mouse button to save each file to your PC and then play them from your local drive.
We encourage you to use Windows Media Player® to listen to the voices, if at all possible, for consistency. If you do not have that player on your PC, you may want to download RealPlayer® as an alternate. Click here for a free copy of RealPlayer®.
