Aircraft Management Federal Aviation Awards

GSA sponsors the Federal Aviation Awards annually to honor the safest and most effective and efficient federal aviation programs in these categories:

Federal Aviation Program Award
Large Program - over 20 owned aircraft and Commercial Aviation Services (CAS)
Small Program - 20 or fewer owned aircraft and CAS or CAS only

Federal Aviation Professional Award
Managerial/Official Category
Operational/Support Crew Category

Nominations covering accomplishments in calendar year 2003, are due to GSA by July 12, 2004.  See "Call for Nominations" link on this page for details.

Third Annual Federal Aviation Awards Presented in September 2003
GSA presented the third annual Federal Aviation Awards on September 25, 2003, at a ceremony held in Washington, DC. Federal agencies nominated 15 programs and professionals for these awards.

The Flight Inspection Flight Program of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Oklahoma City, OK, won the Large Program Award (for civilian federal agencies with more than 20 aircraft), and the Aviation Operations Division of the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, won the Small Program Award (20 or fewer aircraft).

In addition, Robert J. Naughton, Chief of the Aircraft Operations Division, NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX, received the Federal Aviation Professional Award (Managerial Category), while Glenn R. Bissonnette, Manager, Flight Inspection Central Operations Branch, FAA, Oklahoma City, was the winner of the Federal Aviation Professional Award in the Operational Category.

David Bibb, GSA's Deputy Administrator, presented the awards with assistance from the Honorable Marion C. Blakey, Administrator of the FAA, who was the keynote speaker at the awards ceremony. Marty Wagner, GSA's Associate Administrator for Governmentwide Policy, and Becky Rhodes, GSA's Deputy Associate Administrator for Transportation and Personal Property, hosted the ceremony on behalf of GSA's Aircraft Management Policy Division.

Judges for this year's Federal Aviation Awards were Roy Resavage, President, Helicopter Association International; Jack Kelly, Senior Policy Analyst, U.S. Office of Management and Budget; Robert Blouin, Senior Vice President, National Business Aviation Association; Jim Burin, Director of Technical Programs, Flight Safety Foundation; and Woody Cahall, Vice President, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
