11th Marines Regiment
Blazon:
A rectangle per fess red and gold bordered black, inscribed THE
CANNON
COCKERS in chief gold and 11th Marines in base red with
a muzzle loading field cannon and ramrod in natural colors.
Nickname:
The Cannon Cockers
Symbolism:
The Regiment’s insignia recalls the close association with the British
Army’s 42nd Field Artillery Regiment during the Korean War (1950
– 1953) by use of the Royal Artillery Crest – the field cannon and backing
with the red and gold colors of the United States Marine Corps. The nickname and
the title identify the Regiment.
History:
The Regiment was presented its insignia by the Staff
Non-Commissioned Officers of the 42nd Royal Field Artillery Regiment
– in the form of a plaque – near Munsan-ni, Korea on 7 September 1954. A
similar plaque remains with the 42nd.
OLD
BREED
11th
Marines Chapter of the Field Artillery Association
Webster's defines a profession as "a calling requiring
specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation." Our
calling as Marine Artillerymen certainly qualifies as a profession - the
profession of arms. The Field Artillery Association is dedicated to
disseminating professional knowledge and furnishing knowledge specifically
related to the Field Artillery, to cultivating new ideas by promoting
innovation, and to continued development of the combined arms team.
Here at 11th Marines, we have our own chapter of the Field
Artillery Association---the OLD BREED Chapter. Our chapter is dedicated
to continuing the legacy of excellence that has been the hallmark of Marine
artillerymen throughout our Corps' history. Traditions, such as Saint
Barbara's Day and Fiddler's Green are passed along with that Marine
Corps "flavor" through our membership in the FA Association.
Additionally, the highest honors an artilleryman can receive are initiation into
the Honorable and Ancient Orders of St Barbara and the order of Molly
Pitcher for our ladies. The conveyance of these prestigious awards comes under
the auspices of the FA Association.
All 11th Marines alumni, active or retired and friends of the
11th Marines and are welcome to join the OLD BREED Chapter. Membership
