Sergeant Major Moura

 

Colonel Washabaugh received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarion State College, Clarion, Pennsylvania, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in November 1976. He attended The Basic School, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Virginia, completing the course with honors in 1977. His military education includes the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School (nonresident) in 1985; the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Warfighting, Quantico, Virginia in 1993; and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia, in 1994. Prior to his arrival, Colonel Washabaugh was the Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, Marine Forces, Europe. Colonel Washabaugh commanded the Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry (East), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from July 1996 to June 1998. His other assignments include Deputy Director, Strategy and Plans Division, Plans, Policies and Operations Department, Headquarters Marine Corps; Section Head, Plans, Programs and Support (MMOA-3), Officer Assignment Branch, Manpower and Reserve Affairs Department, Headquarters, Marine Corps; Special Assistant to the Commander in Chief, United States Special Operations Command, MacDill AFB, Florida; Battalion Executive Officer, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, and Battalion Operations Officer, 1st Marine Division, Twentynine Palms, California; Enlisted Operations Training Officer, Personnel Procurement Division, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps; Rifle Company Commander and Assistant Regimental Operations Officer, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe, Hawaii; Operations Officer, Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Albany, New York; and Platoon Commander and Assistant S-4 Officer, 3d Marine Division, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan. Colonel Washabaugh's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia.

Sergeant Major Moura enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in January 1975, and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, South Carolina. Upon graduation from Recruit Training Sergeant Major Moura was transferred to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California as an Anti-Tank Assault Man. In December 1976 Sergeant Major Moura was transferred to 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa Japan. Sergeant Major Moura rotated back to the United States in February 1978 and was attached to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC. In March of 1979 Sergeant Major Moura was transferred to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina and graduated in May of 1979 and was assigned to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion as a Drill Instructor. Sergeant Major Moura was transferred to 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan In May of 1980. In August 1983 he was transferred to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina until May of 1989 where he was transferred to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School Of Infantry, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as Platoon Commander and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company F. Upon completion of his tour at the School Of Infantry Sergeant Major Moura was was transferred to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, where he was assigned as the First Sergeant of Company B. In May of 1998 Sereant Major Moura was transferred to 1st Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station, New Jersey where he was the Recruiting Sergenat Major. In June of 2001 Sergeant Major Moura was the transferred back to the School Of Infantry and was assigned as the Headquarters and Service Battalion Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Moura's personal decorations include, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Navy Achievement medals.
