ABOARD THE USS BONHOMME
RICHARD (Oct. 6, 2004)-- Four Marines with the 15th Marine

15th MEU's 2nd at-sea period promises
new challenges, opportunities
ABOARD
USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) (Oct. 6, 2004) – With their first at-sea
period safely entered in the record books, the 15th
Marine Expeditionary Unit headed back to sea for their second of
three such exercises designed to prepare them for expeditionary
missions in the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf regions.
Their
deployment, scheduled for later this year, will be the
first time back to the region since participating in Operation Iraqi
Freedom in 2003. And although their exact mission has not been
identified, they will be ready for any mission presented to them.
This
17-day Composite Training Underway Exercise or COMPTUEX, is designed
to allow the 15th MEU with Amphibious Squadron 7 and
Expeditionary Strike Group 5 to plan and execute a variety of
amphibious missions in preparation for the Joint Task Force Exercise
in November. During the JTFEX, the 15th MEU will
demonstrate the appropriate skills needed to obtain their “Special
Operations Capable” certification.
