A One-Step Method for the Preparation of Difurfuryl Diamine

Docket Number: 145987
Serial Number: 7748380

Forest Service

Issued:
March 8, 1994

Abstract:
A synthetic procedure for the synthesis of diamino difufuryl compounds via a one-step, low-temperature reaction. The procedure does not require additional steps for the protection of the amino functionalities in the reactant or the deprotection of the amino functionalities in an intermediate product to give the final product. Traditionally, compounds used in the production of polymers have been synthesized from petroleum-based products. With this invention, compounds derived from furfural (available in large quantities from renewable resources such as corn cobs, oat husks, and hardwood) can be used in place of petrochemicals for the production of polymeric starting materials.
