See also: US Patent Office Full Record

BT Patent Number: 5891709
Docket Number: 100891
Serial Number: 7912447
Date Patented: 04/06/1999

Technology Description:

ARS researchers have discovered an improved culture medium, called Campy-Cefex, and method for isolating Campylobacter species, particularly C. jejuni and/or C. coli from a variety of sources. The medium is both selective and differential for Campylobacter in samples containing mixed microorganisms. This invention is valuable for the growth and recovery of microorganisms taken form poultry, especially chickens. However, it may also be used for isolating campylobacter from any samples suspected of containing this pathogen, including animal carcasses such as cattle and sheep, food, milk, water, or feces or blood.

This invention could be used by companies that develop food pathogen detection kits.
