Abstract:
A protein derived from carrots can be used to regulate
amino acid content in plants. The invention involves the
isolation and purification of a bifunctional protein with
aspartokinase and homserine activities. Other amino acids in
the invention that can be used as plant regulators are
lysine, homoserine, threonine, isoleuci and methionine. The
invention also involves encoding a DNA molecule with a
sequence that has the same structure of the bifunctional
carrot protein. Further, the invention includes a method of
regulating the amino acid content in a plant by bringing
effective amounts of the bifunctional protein in contact with
the plant.
