The invention involves production of biological herbicides derived from the fungus Botrytis cinerea. The organic compounds, known as botcinol and botcinolide, possess significant phytoxic activity, making them useful as biodegradable contact herbicides. These natural controls are derived by growing the fungal strain in culture and purifying the desirable compounds.
