Novel Glucose and Cellobiose Tolerant B-Glucosidase from Candida peltata

Technology Description:

The invention involves the conversion of cellulosic biomass and agricultural wastes to glucose and also to ethanol through a series of steps. The invention uses a new enzyme, (B-Glucosidase), which is tolerant to high concentrations of glucose and cellobiose and is effective for the hydrolysis of cellobiose to glucose. The enzyme is produced and secreted by a strain of Candida peltata (NRRL Y-21603) which may be cultured in conventional media. The B-Glucosidase is then added to cellulosic materials for hydrolyzation to glucose, which may then be fermented to ethanol.
