Patent Number: 5909786
Docket Number: 13697
Serial Number: 9107799

Agricultural Research Service

Filed:

June 30, 1998

Abstract:

The invention relates to a means of reducing fiber waste and damage during the process of lint cleaning. Present systems utilize lint cleaners which are designed to provide an unvarying level of cleaning which is adequate for highly contaminated cotton. This however causes the typical cotton flowstream to be "overcleaned" with a resultant increase in both fiber loss and fiber damage. The present invention provides a method for mechanically controlling the level of cleaning that is applied to a given cotton flowstream so that a minimum of loss in terms of fiber quality and fiber waste occurs
