Variable-Rate, Digitally-Controlled Sprinkler

Technology Description:

The invention is a system that uniformly dispenses liquids or agricultural inputs using a digitally controlled fluid metering device. Because existing systems, such as center pivot irrigation systems or chemical spray booms mounted on tractors, move at various ground speeds, they can affect flow rates and uniform application. The invention allows the use of large orifice emitters to deliver low-volumes of fluid. This feature enables the system to use low quality fluids, reduce filtration steps and avoid emitter clogging. Uniform application has become increasingly important to adjust to changes in soil, address environmental concerns and reduce operating costs. The invention has applications other than agriculture, such as applying chemicals in process lines, cooling off rooftops and mixing fluids.
