Quick Deployment Fire Shelter

Agency:

Forest Service

Technology Description:

The invention is a quick release handle designed to extract a fire shelter form its carrying case in a one-handed, single pull process. This is an improvement over the current fire shelter release system, which requires a two-handed, two-step deployment process. The quick deployment fire shelter is a substantial improvement over the current system, because it allows firefighters to access the shelter more quickly and retains the shelter in their hands instead of depositing it on the ground. The invention has potential applications in any system that requires quick and easy user access.
