BT Patent Number: 6664371
Docket Number: 23900
Serial Number: 9680201
Date Patented: 12/16/2003

Technology Description:

The invention relates to novel pseudopeptide analogs of the insect allatostatin neuropeptide family, which possessbiological activity mimicking that of the naturally occurring neuropeptides. By addition of a hydrophobic moiety to anactive portion of the allatostatin peptides, analogs are produced which exhibit an overall amphiphilic nature and which arecapable of penetrating the insect cuticle while still retaining biological activity. By substituting sterically hindered aminoacids or aromatic acids for any or all of the second, third, or fifth amino acid residues of the allatostatic C-terminalpentapeptide, analogs have been produced which are resistant to degradation by insect peptidases while still retainingbiological activity. The analogs may be used for insect control by disrupting critical reproductive and/or developmentalprocesses normally regulated by allatostatins in insects.
