Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Are there any plans for Unix or MAC versions of the viewer?

Answer: We would like to see viewers that can be used for Unix, MAC and other systems, but the USGS does not have the funding to develop versions of the software for multiple platforms. The source code for dlgv32 version 3.7 has been released, so perhaps someone else will create versions for other platforms.

Question: Can I get the source code for the viewer?

Answer: The source code for the last USGS version of dlgv32 is located at: ftp://ftpmcmc.er.usgs.gov/release/dlgv32/

Download the 'dlgv32v37src.zip' file.

Question: Where can I get more data?

Answer: Most USGS maps and data are neither on-line nor free. Data can be purchased through USGS sales outlets. For a list of sales offices see: http://geography.usgs.gov/esic/esic_index.html Or visit the Ask USGS site at: http://ask.usgs.gov/ SDTS-formatted data are the exception to this policy. In order to promote the use of the SDTS format as a national standard, the USGS is offering DLG/SDTS and DEM/SDTS for free. The native formats of these products are still available at the same prices. Information about downloading SDTS data can be found at the SDTS Home page: http://mcmcweb.er.usgs.gov/sdts/

Question: Where can I find the product standards for USGS data?

Answer: USGS Data Standards are available at: http://geography.usgs.gov/standards/
