Bonjean Joins Evans’ Commerce Team

U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans today announced that Ron Bonjean will be joining his staff as Director of Public Affairs.

“Ron’s wealth of communications experience will play an integral role of promoting our job creation and economic growth message from Main Street to Wall Street,” said Secretary Evans.

Bonjean most recently was the press secretary for Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi. Previously, Bonjean was tapped by House Republican Conference Chairman J.C. Watts to serve as communications director. During the Bush-Cheney 2000 campaign, Bonjean was communications director for Deputy Co-Chairman Watts during the 2000 Republican National Convention and led the Washington, D.C. House Republican communications team during the Bush-Cheney recount effort in Florida.

Bonjean is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (B.A., Political Science, 1993) and American University (M.A., Journalism and Public Affairs, 1999).

Bonjean officially joins the Commerce Department on February 3.
