SENIOR MEMBER OF BUSH ECONOMIC TEAM TO
TALK JOBS AND TRADE IN GUADALAJARA, MEXICO

Guadalajara, Mexico – U.S. Commerce Secretary Donald L. Evans will attend the Partnership for Prosperity 2004 Entrepreneurial Workshop in Guadalajara, Mexico on Monday June 28 – Tuesday June 29, 2004. Evans will meet with Mexican government officials and business leaders to discuss ways to strengthen free trade between the two countries. Evans will also address ways to grow the social and economic relationship between the U.S. and Mexico and respond to obstacles in the trading partnership.

Evans will deliver the keynote address and present the Good Partner Award to a U.S. company during the Partnership for Prosperity 2004 Entrepreneurial Workshop Dinner. The Good Partner Award recognizes the role of the private sectors in the United States and Mexico in advancing social and economic development in Mexico and their efforts in furthering the goals of the Partnership for Prosperity.

Additionally, Evans will participate in bilateral meetings with Mexican Secretary of Economy Fernando Canales. Evans will also participate in a corporate stewardship event where he will stress the importance of companies helping people and communities in need.

The U.S.-Mexico Partnership for Prosperity initiative was announced by Presidents Bush and Fox in September 2001. The goal of the Partnership is to boost the well-being of Mexican citizens in regions where economic growth has lagged while helping U.S. firms and suppliers identify new partners and markets in Mexico.
