Summary:Arkady Shuster of New York City was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Hauppauge, NY, to 3 years and 1 month of confinement, 3 years' probation, and a fine of $50,000. He pleaded guilty in March 1997 to two counts of conspiracy, two counts of tax evasion, and one count of fraudulent use of an IRS form. Shuster and eight others--Jeffrey Broner, Anna Keylin, Robert Meester, Igor Oransky, Eugene Rakovsky, Nicholas Uccio, Leon Uzdin and Vladimir Zak--were indicted in November 1992 for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to evade more than $3 million in excise taxes on approximately 45 million gallons of gasoline.
