Item:Guilty Pleas for Theft of Copper Cable

Summary:Several defendants convicted in June 1998 in connection with a ring that stole more than $150,000 worth of copper cable and ships' artifacts from a Maritime Administration reserve fleet were sentenced in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, CA. Steven Smith was sentenced to 18 months' incarceration and 3 years' supervised release and ordered to make restitution of $153,820; Michael Woodyard was sentenced to 1 year and 1 day in jail, 3 years' supervised release and restitution of $153,820; and Dominick L. Fulco was sentenced to 3 years in a halfway house, 3 years' probation and restitution of $10,800. Also sentenced were Marlon Burton, to 6 months' home detention, 3 years' probation and $24,400 in restitution, and Desare Pelonio, to 4 months' home detention, 3 years' probation and restitution of $28,941. The case was investigated by OIG.
